We’ll also cover topics such as system administration, UNIX, and Linux distributions. Ready to take your Linux interviewing skills to the next level? Let’s get started!

1) What is Linux?

Linux is an open-source operating system kernel, originally developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991. Linux has become the most popular GNU/Linux operating system, used in servers and embedded systems alike.

It is an open source operating system that was designed to provide free software to the public.

2) Tell us about your experience administering Linux systems.

In my previous roles, I’ve had a lot of experience administrating Linux systems; this includes both desktop and server deployments. I’m familiar with common tasks such as setting up users, groups, permissions, monitoring services, installing applications etc.

3) What are your thoughts on using UNIX?

I think using UNIX is an interesting option for certain jobs because it has a wide range of capabilities including system administration, network management etc., which can be very useful in certain roles. However, I also think there are a lot of similarities between UNIX and Linux systems; so if you’re not already familiar with both, it might be difficult to learn everything the first time around.

4) What is your experience with Linux distributions?

I’ve been involved in developing and using a few different Linux distributions over the past few years. This includes Debian GNU/Linux, Fedora, and Ubuntu. I think these experiences have given me an insight into how different distributions work and what features people may want or need from them.

5) What are the biggest challenges you face when administering Linux systems?

One of the most challenging things about administering Linux systems is ensuring that everyone has access to the necessary resources and commands so they can carry out their jobs effectively. This includes making sure users have the correct permissions as well as configuring required services properly.

6) How do I install Linux?

The most common way to install Linux is by downloading an installation media (ISO file) from distrowatch.com, which you can burn onto an optical disk or mount as a virtual hard drive on your computer. You can also boot from a USB flash drive or over the network.

7) What are some tips you have for managing files and directories?

One of the most important things when administering Linux systems is to ensure that files and directories are managed properly. This includes ensuring that permissions are set correctly, avoiding orphaned files, and keeping track of changes so they can be easily recovered if necessary.

8)What is Linux Kernel?

Linux Kernel is a core component of the Linux operating system. It provides the basic functionality that allows the systems to run, such as networking and storage services. It provides an interface for user-level interaction.

9)Is it legal to edit Linux Kernel?

Yes. You can edit Linux Kernel because it is released under General Public License. It is free to use, modify and redistribute.

10) What is the advantage of open source?

The advantage of open source is that it allows for greater transparency and collaboration between developers. This allows for more stable and reliable software, which can be easily updated if necessary. Open source facilitates you to distribute your software, including its source code, freely.

11) What are the basic components of Linux?

Linux has all components like kernel, shell, init, userspace and device drivers. The kernel is the core of a Linux system; it provides an interface for user-level interaction and regulates the execution of programs in the operating system. Shell execute commands that you type at a prompt and init starts up your computer by initializing all required files and settings. Userspace runs applications provided on disk or downloaded over the network

12)Name some shells that are commonly used in Linux

The most commonly used shells are bash, sh, ksh.
